  1. Can anyone join your book club? I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time but I’m new at it so I don’t know what I have to do. Could you explain how your book club works? ~~Michele

    • Hi Michele! Of course – our book club is open to anyone. We have selected one book per month up until next December (this can be seen under the ‘Book Club (2013-2014)’ tab), which both April and I will read and then post reviews about. Anyone is welcome to join in, and can comment on our reviews to tell us their thoughts. We’d love you to join us if you see a book which takes your fancy. 🙂

  2. You have read an amazing amount of notable books, I’m going to set myself the challenge of reading those you have listed in your favourites, only if you don’t mind me doing that.

    • Of course not, Maria! What a lovely thing to do. We’re both flattered. 🙂 Let us know how you get on with the books, and if any of them make it onto your favourites list too.

  3. May I thank you most sincerely for your lovely review. Alice has been in fact very widely and well reviewed – particularly here in America, where I live. The book of mine I hope you manage to read is The Surgeon of Crowthorne (the British title of The Professor and the Madman); but as I was a geologist a number of my books relate to that particular science. Do let me know how you get on: my office email is simonwinchester@mac.com. I am off for the next two months to the Russian Far East – research for a book on the Pacific Ocean – but ought to have email most of the time. Again: thank you, thank you. Simon W.

    • Thanks so much for your comment, Simon! I’m so glad that ‘Alice’ has been reviewed widely in America, and I’m surprised that it hasn’t been here. Thank you for the recommendation; I will be sure to get to it as soon as I can. Your newest book sounds fascinating, and I hope you have a wonderful trip!

  4. I’m glad to see Master and Margarita and so many classics in your favourites! This shows you’re not a ”fangirl” of any newly-released YA sensation.

Your list of favourites also reminds me that I must buy Rebecca! I heard only good things about this book!

    • Thanks so much! I’m not really into YA, I must admit. I read it occasionally, and actually, some of the YA books which I’ve read have been really good, but I just find them a little insipid and quite predictable on the whole. Do buy ‘Rebecca’! It’s a stunning novel, and the story will stick with you for a long time.

    • Thank you so, so much – that is so kind of you! I’m really glad that you like the blog and my BookTube channel. Thanks for your lovely comment! 🙂

      • What I love is that it’s complete chance when you get there! You never know what you might find! Especially in the trunks outside the front…. I think my best find was 30 green crime penguins all discarded from a house clearance and going for 50p each… so I took them all!!!! What about you???

      • Yes, I completely agree! What a wonderful find! I think mine has to be a copy of Beatrix Potter’s letters which I’d been looking for for ages; I got it for about £6, I think, and had only seen it online for £30+.
