I am thrilled to say that I have done it; I now do not have a to-read pile. Each of the books which languished upon it, some of them for years, have now been read, and many of them will feature in upcoming reviews. Those of you who have been here for a while will know that getting to a small TBR has been a project of mine for quite some time (years, most likely…).
I aim to keep a zero TBR going forward. I am currently on a no-buy year, so will not be purchasing any books myself – unless, of course, I really do need them and have no other choice but to buy them. This, though, seems very unlikely, given that I am no longer studying. I imagine that the only time books will be added to my TBR this year will be as birthday and Christmas presents, and I will endeavour to get through them as quickly as I can.
I am very proud of myself for this achievement, which I did not think I would ever reach. It feels good that now, if I do acquire new books for whatever reason, I can prioritise my reading of them, rather than letting them sit on a shelf for months on end. I am reading almost exclusively borrowed books at the moment; I have a few which family members have lent me, and then of course the many library loans which I just can’t resist taking home with me each time I visit.
Having no TBR feels like a very calming stage to have reached, and I hope that I can maintain it for a long time to come.
